Iran Israel War Live Updates: The conflict between Iran and Israel entered its fifth day, with continued strikes from both sides. While Iran launched a fresh wave of strikes on Israel, Jerusalem said it launched "extensive" strikes targeting missile and drone sites in western Iran. According to Iran's health ministry, Israeli attacks on the country have killed at least 224 people and injured more than 1,200 others. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said that at least 24 people have been killed and 592 injured in Iranian attacks on Israel.

Iran's top army chief, Ali Shadmani, killed

Tensions further flared up as the Israeli military on Tuesday said it killed Iran's top military commander, Ali Shadmani, in an overnight strike. The military termed him as the closest person to Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The military said in a statement that following a "sudden opportunity overnight, the (Israeli air force) struck a staffed command centre in the heart of Tehran and eliminated Ali.  Shadmani, the wartime Chief of Staff, the most senior military commander".

Shadmani had commanded both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian armed forces.
