Police yesterday detained a man over attempting to rape an 8-year-old child in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
The accused is Moslem Uddin, 60, of Barmi union in Sreepur upazila and was a neighbour of the child.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel.Mizanur Rahman, assistant sub-inspector of Sreepur Police Station, told The Daily Star that the man was caught red-handed by the locals around 8:00pm.
He was later handed over to police after a beating.
The accused has been admitted to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex.
The child is still with the family. Legal action will be taken against the detainee after filing of a case, added the police official.
