The Hyderabad police Wednesday asked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh to travel in a bulletproof vehicle and security personnel provided to him by the Telangana Government amid calls threatening to kill him.

However, Singh Thursday shared the notice from the Hyderabad police, saying they had rejected his application for a weapon license.

“It is to alert you that you have been receiving frequent threatening calls, and it has been observed that you often leave your residence and office without security personnel, moving among the public, which demonstrates negligence towards your safety. In this regard, you are requested to protect yourself by using a bulletproof vehicle and ensuring the presence of the (1+4) security personnel allotted by the government to prevent any untoward incidents,” the letter addressed to the BJP MLA read.

Singh said in a statement, “What exposes the hypocrisy of the system is that when I applied for a gun license citing security concerns, the same police department rejected my application, citing cases against me. Ironically, there are many individuals with pending cases who have been granted gun licenses without any objections”.

Singh said while has been advised to discontinue travelling on his bike in the Goshamahal constituency, it is not practical. “However, the reality of my constituency is very different. Goshamahal consists of colonies, slums business establishments, narrow lanes, and bylanes where a bulletproof car cannot go without causing inconvenience to the public. My priority has always been to remain accessible to my people, and moving freely on my bike allows me to stay connected with them without creating unnecessary disruptions,” the MLA added.
